Introduction
Markha Valley Trek, May 2022
My name is Srinivasan, based in Mumbai, 55 years of age, a qualified accountant by profession and a writer, musician, runner, financial advisor, personal wealth coach, by passion!
I have tried to capture my views and feelings about our recent trip (May 2022) to Jammu - Kashmir - Ladakh in the following chapters.
The blog is in 2 parts,
the first part comprising chapters (i) to (v) about the short vacation we had before we actually started trek
and the second part - chapter (vi) onwards, about the actual Markha Valley Trek we undertook.
As this is my first Himalayan trek, one may find a lot of excitement and enthusiasm in the language I have used.
I have tried to cover several aspects of the trek in this blog.
To a veteran trekker this may seem very basic .
To a fellow trekker who was part of this trekking team, he/she may be able to identify with the several incidents I have quoted.
To someone who has not made a Himalayan trek so far, this could be something from which one could learn a lot.
To someone who is reading this just out of curiosity, this will give a brief idea how we felt.
Personally for me, the idea behind this blog is to relive this first time experience again and again whenever I go through this in future.
All images used are actual photographs captured during the trip with mobile cameras.
The story starts with 5 of us, all Tamil Iyers - tam brahms - based in Mumbai - aged 50 years plus - reasonably successful professionals.
Somewhere along the trek, we coined the term "Trekk(Iy)ers" and adopted this moniker. We also coined a slogan to go along with this - When you drink you get high, when you trek you get High(Iy)er!
I would sincerely like to thank my fellow Trekk(iy)ers, my family members and everyone else who has encouraged me in this and other writing endeavor.
Happy reading!
